Castles in Wales

I love Wales, the countryside is gorgeous and the people amazing.  I will never forget being in a pub and trying to learn the welsh alphabet over a flight of welsh beers – but that is for another post.

Did you know that Wales has over 600 castles?  This itinerary is primarily to see castles!  It is driving along beautiful coastlines full of history and sheep.

Wales Coastal Castles – summery and details in PDF
Castles visited: Denbigh Castle, Conwy Castle, Beaumaris Castle, Caernarfon Castle, Pentre Castle, Harlech Castle, Carreg Cennen Castle,  Caerphilly Castle, Castell Coch, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle.

The three best parts:
Conwy – the city, the castle, the Tudor house the view!
Black Boy Inn – Amazing pub
Castell Coch – Restored castle, amazing audio guide.

There is soo much in this itinerary.  This is 7-10 days packed full of adventures, castles, gardens, and pubs.  Before you go make sure you check out Go Below if you enjoy caving, Wales is well known for its caving.  Bodnant Gardens and Sudeley Castle and Gardens are both exceptional, Sudeley Gardens also has a live pheasant ‘zoo’.

What I liked most about this trip was the diversity of castles.  From well restored and filled with artifacts to just single remaining towers made with the black slate of the welsh mountains (Pentre Castle).  And the excitement of finding a castle built above a network of natural caves (Carreg Cennen Castle).  It is amazing what humans have built and time has changed.
