Ostend, Belgium

When I think of Belgium I think of waffles, beer, and history. I think of Brussels, her capital with its amazing architecture and humor that brought forth Manneken Pis (a statue of a peeing child).

What I do not think of is sandy beaches, boardwalks, and casinos.

Hello Ostend. *waves*

Ostend is located on the northwest coast of Belgium. I recently attended ClarinetFest, an international clarinet convention that was held in Ostend. To the poor design of the festival, I had to walk across Ostend over and over. I feel like I have gotten to know it fairly well, for a tourist.

The buildings are not old in comparison, the city itself is really not exceptional. However, it has sandy mostly warm (during the summer) beaches. A giant casino and concert hall connected to a paved boardwalk where you can rent bikes and foot-powered vehicles to torcher you loved ones and strangers with.

Kursaal Oostende – concert venue.

I enjoyed my few days here and I would definitely come back and spend a day at the beach and catch and show 🙂
