4aDeer Fighter. Great Weapon Fighting. God is Freyr, Fertility God. |
Backstory
I don’t remember my mother. My only family were the others in the fighting pits. When we were too young to fight we dragged off bodies, fed fantastic beasts from around the world, and cleaned. Endless cleaning. Surfaces that would never come clean of the grit, blood, and suffering that covered them.
Orcs come into their size young and I tore the limbs off my first animal, a warm-up show for the real pit fights. I think it was a wolf. They start you with starved animals before you move to smarter creatures. Creatures more like yourself. I lived and breathed in my cage. Let out to fight, to practice, and eventually to breed with other captives, the masters always looking for the new biggest and best bloodline.
Apparently, my father was one of the best before one of his wounds became infected and he died in his cage. I wouldn’t die in my cage, like my father. I was regularly taken to a big female, she had yet to bear fruits from my seed, when I found my opportunity for escape. She wanted to come, but fear held her in place. I left her with one more chance at a coveted child and never looked back.
I was pursued, but I left my pursuers in piles of bloody body parts and ran until even I didn’t know where I was. I was lucky, passing a caravan that was being attacked by filthy goblins. In my memory, green greedy goblin faces, watched me fight. Taking bets but never offering up a fighter of their own. I charged in to defend the caravan and, with my help, the goblins were run off without a single lost life. Goblins don’t count.
Evan, the caravan leader, feared me but also respected my skills. He taught me how to survive, to live outside the pits. He gave me work until his work ran out. And then I was on my own. To wander, to survive, to live and learn. Someday I will be wise enough to start my own clan of Orcs. I will have honest victories over the villains of this world and I will protect innocent life. Because that is the only thing worth protecting.
